This great artist of the 20th century created some unique paintings, but only a few people are familiar with his sketches, engravings and ceramics. “If all the ways I have been along were marked on a map and joined up with a line, it might represent a minotaur”, stated Pablo Picasso, who was deeply influenced by iconography, the symbols and myths of ancient Greek culture. The exhibition “Picasso and Antiquity. Line and Clay” curated by Professor Nikolas Chr. Stambolidis and Olivier Berggruen, opens up a dialogue between the great Spanish artist and his rare ceramics depicting sea creatures, quadrupeds, human figures and mythological scenes, with the ancient works from the Creto-Myceanean and Greek civilisations. At the same time, items inspired by the exhibition – many decorative ceramics and an important series of publications on Pablo Picasso – are featured in the Cycladic Shop. Look for them!
